Entrance Requirements
- A student must be at least six years of age on or before August 31 of that school year in order to end the first grade.
- Physical examinations are required for all new students and students entering the seventh grade.
- State required health form and immunizations for polio, SPT, easels, mumps, and rubella must be completed before any new student may enter school. Students must also have two doses of MMR and three doses of the Hepatitis B series.
- Complete registration forms and consent to treatment forms.
- Make the necessary financial arrangements.
- Make the necessary arrangements for records from previous school to be sent.
- Birth Certificate.
Grade Placement
New students may be required to take a placement test prior to starting school. The school reserves the right, after testing the child and after counseling with the parents, to change the grade placement of the child.
Who Should Apply
Yuma Adventist Christian School welcomes the application of any student who desires a Christian education and is willing to support the principles and regulations of the school. In order to safeguard the scholastic, spiritual, and moral atmosphere of the school, the school reserves the right to refuse admittance or to dismiss any student if the school feels that it is unable to be of adequate benefit to the student.
Visitors
Parents and other interested adults are welcome to visit the school. Parents and others interested in observing classroom time should make an appointment at least 24 hours prior to the date of the scheduled visit. This will also verify that the students are not scheduled for testing, a field trip or other special activities. Only those children registered for the current school year are allowed on campus during school hours unless prior approval from the administration has been make for the visitors.
School Hours
School begins at 8:15 am.
School ends at 3:30 pm. Monday – Thursday.
School ends at 12:00 on Fridays.
Home & School Association
The Home and School Association is organized by parents and supported by the school. It assists the school in fund-raising events and plans extra curricular activities that are in harmony with the school’s goals and philosophies.
Testing
Students are tested in the Fall using the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. The results of these nationally normed achievement tests will be made available to parents and guardians at the Parent/Teacher Conference following the firs quarter of school. First and second graders are not tested.
Student Sexual Harassment Policy
Yuma Adventist Christian School is committed to providing a school environment free from sexual harassment for all students. Incidents of harassment should be reported in accordance with the procedures stated below so school authorities may take appropriate action. Students who sexually harass others are subject to discipline up to and including dismissal. Employees who engage in sexual harassment are subject to discipline up to and including termination.
Definition: Sexual harassment is unwelcome sexual advances or requests and other conduct of a sexual nature which is offensive. It can be spoken, written, or physical behavior. It includes pictures, graffiti, jokes or gestures. Sexual harassment also occurs when the offensive behavior or material creates a hostile environment.
Reporting Procedures: Students who have experienced sexual harassment shall report the incident to school authorities as soon as possible. If the harassment is between students, the students shall report the incident to the classroom teacher. If the harassment comes from an adult, the students shall report to the school board chairman or another responsible adult.
